Azerbaijani President Promises Protection of Armenian Churches

The president of Azerbaijan has pledged that Armenian Christian churches will be protected during a takeover of a disputed territory.

The strongly Muslim nation now has control of Nagorno-Karabach after Armenia agreed to vacate the area.

Russian peacekeepers entered the area to oversee the transition, putting an end to six weeks of fighting over the contested territory.

Azerbaijan’s president Ilham Aliyev made the promise to look after Christians fleeing the area, during a conversation with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

However, Armenian believers are far from convinced, with thousands leaving behind torched homes in the wake of the conflict.

Worthy News reports that hundreds, if not thousands, of combatants and civilians, have been killed since fighting flared in late September.
