The border between New South Wales and Victoria has finally reopened, allowing residents to move freely between the states for the first time in four and half months.
Motorists were queuing in Wodonga, to be among the first to cross into the New South Wales border- town of Albury, as restrictions were lifted at midnight.
It was a slow crawl across the bridge, but travellers were eager to be reunited with family and fiends after so many months apart, many making the drive from metropolitan Melbourne.
The Albury checkpoint is one of 27 checkpoints set up In border – towns …that have now been removed … police thanking to community for their support throughout the operation.
For Local residents, it also represents a newfound freedom, as they now can cross the river without needing a border pass.
