The latest film in a documentary series about the archaeological support for the truth of Bible stories will be released next month.

It will be the sixth Pattern of Evidence film based on research across Israel and the Middle East.

Filmmaker Tim Mahoney has previously looked at the case for the Israelites’ exodus from Egypt; Moses writing the first five books of the Bible; the crossing of the Red Sea; and the journey to Mount Sinai.

“We found that whole pattern of evidence for the story of the Exodus with the Israelites coming to Egypt, Joseph, the plagues, all that — it just basically made me more bold,” he told Christian Headlines.

His latest film examines the biblical mountain where Moses received the Ten Commandments.

A small crew was given permission to go to a politically sensitive location in Saudi Arabia but arrived to a hostile reception.

Mr. Mahoney was inspired to to make his documentaries from his own crisis of faith, saying: “I think that what these films do is they give you confidence.”

He says his films are for both Christians and sceptics at a time when many historians and the general public reject Biblical stories as being true.

He says the physical evidence he’s gathered supports the biblical narrative.

Mr. Mahoney is the founder of Thinking Man Films which gets its name from his own goal for churchgoers: He wants them to dig deep and “think” about their faith.

“A lot of people can’t go to the Middle East, but I can take you there through these films. I can show you the evidence, and I can give you different options to consider.”

In his documentaries he interviews scholars from across the ideological spectrum, including ones who are sceptical of Scripture:

“What I found out is they have their stock answer. But if you ask the second and third question, you start to see that those answers aren’t very good.”

He describes the films as a “good vaccination of biblical truth” to fight the “disease of unbelief.”
