Emmanuel Macron has become the first French President in 20 years to secure a second term in office.
President Macron successfully fought off a challenge from his right-wing opponent, to claim victory in the French election.
Although polling gave Marine Le Pen a narrow chance at victory, in the end it was a clear win to Macron with 58 percent, and Le Pen winning 42 percent.
Leaders from other NATO nations will be welcoming the win, after they feared a Le Pen leadership would weaken the unity of the front against Russia’s aggression in Ukraine.
Emmanuel Macron celebrated his victory with thousands of supporters underneath the Eiffel Tower – playing the European anthem, Ode to Joy.
