India’s government has reversed an anti-Christian move it made a few weeks ago, when it banned Mother Teresa’s charity from receiving foreign funds.

Hindu hardliners claimed the Catholic organisation did not meet conditions under local laws.

One parliamentary leader called it the greatest insult to the memory of Mother Teresa who devoted her life to care for the ‘poor and wretched’ of India.

She started the Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata 70 years ago, running hundreds of shelters for some of the world’s neediest people.

Mother Teresa was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her work and posthumously declared a saint 5 years ago.

Her charity strenuously denies accusations of forced conversions.

It welcomed the reinstatement of its licence so it can resume helping the poor.
