Italy is set to welcome its first female Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, who describes herself as a “woman”, a “Christian”, a “mother”, and an “Italian”.
Meloni, leads the conservative Brothers of Italy party, with some critics labelling her “far-right” or “fascist”.
However, her policy stances appear to fall in line with traditional conservative values.
Speaking at the World Congress of Families in 2019, Meloni said:
We do not want to be numbers.
We will defend the value of the human being. Every single human being. Because each of us has a unique genetic code that is unrepeatable.
And like it or not, that is sacred. We will defend it. We will defend God, country and family.
Those things that disgust people so much. We will do it to defend our freedom.
In her first victory speech since the election, Meloni vowed that her party would “govern for all Italians.”
