The 14-year-old boy with autism missing at Mount Disappointment, north of Melbourne, since Monday has been found safe and well.
William Callaghan had been walking with another family member on Monday afternoon when he wandered off, sparking a search effort involving more than 500 people from specialist police crews to SES volunteers and concerned locals.
William, who is non-verbal, had not been wearing appropriate clothing for the freezing conditions, and had no food.
Local residents had been leaving out food for him, with his favourite song – the theme from Thomas the Tank Engine – played over loudspeakers in the hope of drawing him out.
