The Australian Christian Lobby is calling for a ‘Folau clause’ in the lead-up to the Morrison government unveiling the final version of a religious discrimination bill.

It comes after star player Israel Folau was pushed out of Rugby Australia for an Instagram post which promoted the Biblical view on a number of social issues.

ACL managing director Martyn Iles is calling on Attorney-General Michaelia Cash to retain protections for religious employees.

He says it is important that employers will not be able to police the religious speech of employees in the staff member’s own time.

The first two drafts of the bill have contained this protection.

Senator Cash says the bill will be a traditional, limited piece of anti-discrimination legislation.

It’s due to be brought to Federal parliament by the end of the year.
