Statues Of Jesus Christ Just Keep Getting Bigger In Unlikely Places

‘Christ the Redeemer’ in Rio de Janeiro may be the world’s most famous statue of Jesus, but even at 38 metres high including its pedestal, it’s no longer the tallest.

‘Christ the King’ in the western Poland city of Swiebodzin currently officially holds that honour at 52.5 metres high including its mound.

But many claim the statue of ‘Jesus Buntu Barake’ or ‘Jesus Christ Blessing‘ is actually a fraction taller if you include its pedestal.

It was only in inaugurated in December 2018 in the world’s most populous Islamic nation of Indonesia.

Roman Catholics built it on the island of Sulawesi in the heart of the land of the Toraja people who are mostly Christian.

Elsewhere, the southern Brazilian city of Encantado will soon complete construction of ‘Christ the Protector’ that stands at 43 metres.

That’s slightly higher than ‘Christ of Peace’ in Cochabamba in  Bolivia which is 40.5 metres.

All of them could eventually be dwarfed by another ‘Christ of Peace” mega statue planned for Mexico near the US border.

At 77 metres, it would tower over Ciudad Victoria as a symbol of peace in one of the world’s most dangerous cities.

But so far, no investors have come forward to fund the ambitious project.
