Thousands of Sydney residents have been forced from their homes, and are now facing a nervous wait due to the flooding emergency in parts of the city’s west.

Almost 70 evacuation orders are now in place – major flood warnings are still in place for parts of the Hawkesbury and Nepean Rivers.

The SES have made more than a hundred rescues, and are urging people to prioritise their own safety and never drive through floodwaters.

Six evacuation centres are open in Canley Vale, Castle Hill, Gymea, Narellan, North Richmond and Richmond.

People are urged to stay up to date with evacuation orders, and check the SES website for the latest advice.
