A retired maths teacher has been awarded a A$140,000 payout after being suspended for not using preferred pronouns when addressing a transgender student.

Pamela Ricard’s Kansas school also ordered her to use the student’s birth name and gender when dealing with the parents.

She argued that was deceptive because the school didn’t want the parents to know the child identified as transgender.

Ms. Ricard sued the school claiming the instruction to lie to the parents went against her Christian faith and breached her rights to free speech.

The case was withdrawn when the school offered to settle and pay all legal costs.

It also agreed to issue a statement that Ms. Ricard was in good standing without any disciplinary actions when she retired in May.

Charisma News notes the school has since revoked its secretive policy on parental communications.
