A sequel to Mel Gibson’s acclaimed movie The Passion of the Christ is expected to start filming within months.
Producers will aim for a release next year, 20 years after the original first screened.
It’s believed The Passion of the Christ: Resurrection will pick up the story 24 hours after Jesus’s death.
It will reportedly cover the three days between His crucifixion and resurrection.
Director and writer Mel Gibson has already done six drafts of the script.
Actor Jim Caviezel will return in the title role.
He’s on record as saying: “It’s going to be a masterpiece — the biggest film in world history.”
The original movie earned more than A$900 million at the box office from a A$60 million budget.
Co-writer Randall Wallace has said the evangelical community considers The Passion to be the biggest movie ever to come out out of Hollywood.
He added that they believe the sequel will be even bigger.
