The Archbishop of San Francisco Salvatore Cordileone has banned US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi from receiving communion because of her strong support for abortion.

The 82-year-old who describes herself as a devout Catholic, has defended her pro-abortion views.

Archbishop Cordileone said the communion ban was “purely pastoral, not political.”

He explained the order was issued in accordance with Canon Law, which states that: “Those obstinately persevering in manifest grave sin are not to be admitted to Holy Communion.”

He said that after numerous attempts to speak with Ms. Pelosi about the scandal she is causing, he must make a public declaration.

The veteran lawmaker continues to claim that her pro-choice position is in line with Catholic teaching.

Ms. Pelosi received communion at a Catholic church in Washington DC last Sunday.

CBN News reports she recently said the church would like to throw her out, but she’s not going anywhere.
