Labor Regrets Ignoring Christian Voters

Exactly one year ago today, the Labor Party was attempting to push through a Bill through Parliament, which would have prevented Christian schools from being Christian.

Martyn Iles, Managing Director of the Australian Christian Lobby, shared with Matt Prater on Vision Christian Radio’s 20Twenty program about how Labor now regrets that decision, and that they now blame ignoring religious voters as the key reason for losing the Election.

“A year later, [Labor has] written a report saying ‘what we did actually was put the Christians off-side and people of faith thought we were against them. And that perception was one of the major factors that lost us the election.’”

This report lines up with the research that the ACL did post election, which found “the twenty most religious seats in Australia swung to the Coalition at roughly twice the average rate,” Martyn revealed.

“We found a similar correlation when you look at the twenty least religious seats, they swung the other way.”

When looking at this data, Martyn says that people were questioning why certain seats swung in the way that they did.  “Is it Adani, no that’s North Queensland.  People were farrowing their brow at what they were seeing.  I remember at the time we did some analysis and the thing that was consistent across all the seats that brought the Coalition Government was significant religious communities.”

Labor has put out their official campaign review and have simply said very clearly ‘we lost the Christians’.
