Vision’s radio station at Hawker, SA, went to air on 28 January 2023. This is Vision’s 56th radio station out of the 100 stations 2021-2023 project and the 795th station overall.

Hawker has a population of 301 and is located 383 km north of Adelaide, via Clare and Carrieton, making it a 4-hour 25-minute drive. It is 401 km via the coast road through Port Pirie and Port Augusta. The town is located 56 km south of Wilpena Pound.

Hawker is a tiny historic railway town described as ‘The Hub of the Flinders Ranges’. It was named in 1880 after George Charles Hawker. Prior to the arrival of Europeans, the area was home to the Banggarla Aboriginal people.

The historic railway station, which dates from 1880, with its water tower, Goods Shed, Wool Platform and station crane is worth a visit as is the Outback Motel if you’re interested in old farm equipment. Hawker Motors has a museum with a display of gemstones, fossils, pioneer memorabilia and Aboriginal artefacts.

For those who like to hike there is the Jarvis Hill Lookout and 57 km north of Quorn on the Flinders Ranges Way is the Yourambulla Caves Historic Reserve with caves displaying Aboriginal art.

So, whether you’re a local or visiting, you can now tune in to 88.0 FM and be blessed by God’s Word being spread through Vision Radio and the supporters who made it possible. It might just change your life!
