Take Away Hunger Day

Christmas in Australia – a time of giving, receiving, love and joy. A time when most families unite around a great meal. Turkey, ham, salads, desserts. So much to choose from.

But the story is very different for children in refugee camps in Africa and the Middle East.

No doubt they feel trapped, through no fault of their own, having fled violence and war to seek refuge, safety and security, only to end up in a crowded Refugee camp where food is scarce. South Sudanese children are especially impacted. Approximately 540,000 refugees have crossed the border into Uganda to escape their war-torn homeland, with over 92,000 refugees this year alone.

These children quickly find themselves helpless, alone and very hungry. This Christmas, we have purposed to help as many as we can, by putting aside a whole day to highlight their situation and raise funds to provide emergency food through Christian ministry, Feed the Hungry.

This is your chance to share the love of Jesus with these kids by providing them with the nutritious daily meals they so desperately need. Amazingly, it costs just $6 to feed a child daily hot meals for an entire month!

How many children will you take away hunger for this Christmas? Please give what you can on this special day.

Join us for Take Away Hunger Day (Thursday December 15). Our aim? To feed at least 1,000 Refugee Children for an entire month!

Here's how you can help

1. Listen to Vision Christian Radio on Thursday December 15
2. Decide how many Children you can feed;
  • $60 will feed 10 kids
  • $120 will feed 20 kids
3. Repond with your gift to Feed the Hungry. There will be a link here on our website on the day, or you can call 1300 00 55 14.

Meeting the need

Feed The Hungry are currently feeding 34,891 refugees from Congo and South Sudan. They are also working in Malawi, Zimbabwe and Lesotho in Southern Africa. They are also working with Refugees fleeing from ISIS into the Kurdistan region of northern Iraq, providing relief, engaging and serving people who have been outcast and hurting. Muslims who are now receiving help and the hope of the Gospel.

FEED THE HUNGRY is already on the ground, ready to respond through well-established partnerships. But they can only help as many people as they have food to supply, which is where we are asking you to help through Take Away Hunger Day.

Simon’s story

Christmas for Australian kids usually involves early morning present opening, family and food.

But for kids like Simon, Christmas will be very different. Simon is a young who was forced to flee his home in Sudan in the hope of finding food, shelter and security across the border in Uganda.

It is difficult for us to understand exactly what these kids have been through already, let alone what life is like in a Refugee camp. “The journey was dangerous, because many people were being killed” he said.

Right now there are thousands of Children like Simon, in refugee camps in Uganda and many other places, desperate for emergency food and searching for a brighter future. This Christmas we can be the answer to their prayer.

Your support of Take Away Hunger Day will make a massive difference as you share love and hope with kids like Simon, who expressed relief at the fact he had a secure place to stay and a warm meal; “I did not think that I would survive, but I thank God that I am here”.

Simon still has a long road ahead of him, but for now his basic needs are being met, and that is a critical first step toward recovery.

Let’s bring hope for kids like Simon, on Take Away Hunger Day, next Thursday December 15 on Vision Christian Radio.

Take Away Hunger Day is coming to Vision Christian Radio, next Thursday December 15 – bringing focus to people we probably wouldn’t think about much – children of refugees in need of life’s basics, like a regular hot meal. Our hope is to feed at least 1,000 Children in places like Sudan, Uganda and Malawi for an entire month, as our collective gift to them this Christmas. Help bring hope this Christmas on Vision’s Take Away Hunger Day, next Thursday December 15.
