Since lockdown began, one of the UK’s largest churches, has seen the turn out double for its online Alpha course.
The course run by Holy Trinity Brompton provides a space for people to ask questions about faith and Christianity.
Creator of Alpha and HTB Senior Minister Nicky Gumbel told The New Statesman he has never known a time when people are more open to the Bible.
He says, with no sports, entertainment or distraction, people have more time to engage with the Gospel.
His thoughts have been echoed by former Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, who hailed the pandemic as a “remarkable moment of truth”.
Archbishop Williams says many have realised they don’t want to return to the way things were before lockdown, as they now embrace a stronger sense of community.
Digital downloads of the Bible have been installed to almost two million devices in just one month.
