It’s unclear who’s responsible for a cyber attack on the Australian Catholic University.
Hackers used an email scam to steal private information from staff members, including their email accounts and bank details.
The event reportedly affected a small number of staff.
Intelligence officials believe China may have been behind a separate data breach at the Australian National University late last year, but UNSW Canberra Cyber Director Nigel Phair says it’s too early to point fingers at anyone.
“Until the investigation unfolds and they reveal some more information, we really don’t know who’s behind this phishing attack,” says Mr Phair.
The ACU breach is the second incident in a month, with the Australian National University affected by a cyber attack two weeks ago.
