The wedding industry has been accused of “ramping up expectations” for the big day.

Premier Christian News reports, The Bishop of London, Sarah Mullally, says marriage itself matters more than the trappings of a wedding.

In a speech during Question Time, Bishop Mullally said weddings do not have to be an “expensive extravaganza”.
She went on to say, fees for a church wedding or a simple registry office ceremony are “very modest”.

The bishop’s comments came as the clergy urges Parliament to back the institution of marriage and recognise National Marriage Week in the U.K. from May 10th.

They are urging the Government to encourage couples to understand “that marriage itself matters far more than the commercial trappings of a wedding day”.
