Boost in Indigenous Bible Resources

Tuesday, July 9th, 2019

The Aboriginal Bibles website has been given a revamp for this NAIDOC week, providing new Bible material in Indigenous languages.

The joint project involves Bible Society Australia, Australian Society for Indigenous Languages, Wycliffe Bible Translators, and other partners.

The website’s purpose is to provide Biblical content and other Christian resources to encourage Australians to preserve languages of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Prior to European settlement, there were around 400 Indigenous languages spoken in Australia; today, only about 10 per cent of those languages are still being used in daily life.

The new-look website now features 35 Aboriginal languages, with another 15 still to come.
