Chinese churches are being converted into “cultural hubs” in the hope that Christians will renounce their faith.

Open Doors reports, Flowing Stream Church was recently shut down and accused of occupying the village’s cultural base.

One expert has told Time Magazine, authorities in China fear more people are turning to the church for their spiritual needs, and not to official nationalism and patriotism.

Soon after its closure, Flowing Stream Church was reopened as a cultural service centre, designed to promote socialist and nationalist thought.

A similar thing happened to another nearby church.

In a recent video, officials said a “monotonous cultural life” and lack of education drive citizens towards religion – so they hope the new cultural hubs will encourage people to abandon their faith and profess no other leader than the Communist Party president.
