A Christian lawyer who reported the onset of the COVID-19 outbreak has been honoured for her work.
China Aid has announced Zhang Zhan as the recipient of its 2020 Freedom Award, on the one-year anniversary of her arrest for reporting on the outbreak.
China Aid says Ms Zhang travelled to the centre of the outbreak in Wuhan to investigate the circumstances and record her findings on video.
This included a focus on the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
China Aid says Chinese Communist Party authorities arrested Ms. Zhang – she was then unjustly tried and sentenced to four years in prison.
It says by courageously exposing what she witnessed and learned, Zhang Zhan demonstrated a dedication that touched the world.
Founder Bob Fu says the arbitrary arrest, torture and shameful trial of the Christian citizen journalist extended China’s cover-up of the circumstances surrounding the coronavirus outbreak.
