Communication has been lost with a Christian teenager arrested by Egyptian police.

Officers detained the 17 year old girl as she was leaving a Cairo church at the end of August.

She’s a Christian convert from Islam who had successfully kept that a secret from her family for a number of years.

International Christian Concern said the teen had successfully applied to a university in Texas, which awarded her several scholarships worth around $20,000.

She was working through the American Embassy in Cairo to plan her travel and was heading for the embassy  when was detained.

The girl managed to get out a message from another inmate’s phone in prison.

A friend said officials took everything from her including her money.

Local Christians say they’re ‘terribly concerned’ for her safety.
