Christians are breathing easier in Morocco after a major defeat for the Islamist-led government.

It had held power for the past 10 years, but now holds just 13 seats of the nearly 400 in its parliament.

Christianity Today quotes believers as saying; “We thank Jesus, the Islamists are gone,” and “God answered our prayers.”

The country is now governed by a coalition of liberal parties who favour more freedoms.

The Islamists wanted to introduce sharia law.

Christians are confident the new billionaire prime Minister won’t persecute anyone for their faith.

The constitutional monarchy guarantees freedom of thought and the right to practice one’s religious affairs.

It’s estimated there are up to 25,000 Christians in Morocco.
