Christians Fear Mass Closure of Churches If Russia Invades Ukraine

Christians in Ukraine have spent what was supposed to be their festive season praying, because they have had little to celebrate.

They fear tens of thousands of Russian troops assembled along the border will mount a full scale invasion.

Russian-backed rebels took control of the eastern regions of Ukraine 8 years ago, but have never received international recognition.

They declared most Christian denominations illegal and extremist, apart from the Russian Orthodox church.

The Ukrainian believers are claimed to be the most persecuted in Europe.

‘Christianity Today’ reports many churches have gone underground with leaders and members declaring prayer as their spiritual weapon, saying “God can undo what the politicians are planning.”

Christians across the rest of Ukraine fear for their own futures if Russia invades.
