An Anglican church in Sydney’s south-west has celebrated 200 years of Christian mission in the district.
The celebration at St Luke’s in Liverpool included the reading of John 3:16 in the languages of the people in the parish.
Native speakers from more than 20 countries including Mauritius, Egypt, Italy, Hungary, and Afghanistan read the verse.
Liverpool rector Reverend Stuart Pearson has told Sydney Anglicans News, they are not celebrating the building, but two centuries of mission activity.
Archbishop Glenn Davies told the celebrating congregation the multicultural nature of the occasion was appropriate because they want all people to hear the good news of John 3:16.
The church runs services, Sunday school, playgroups, and community events through its chaplaincy and Anglicare.
