Billboards sponsored by a Texas church, calling the US a Christian nation, have been taken down for being too ‘divisive’.
Their removal followed complaints led by journalist Robert Wilonsky, who sought support from the Dallas mayor.
According to Fox News reporter Todd Starnes, the billboard company told the First Baptist Church they were being hammered by the media about how offensive and bigoted the billboards were.
Outfront Media said after a complaint to their corporate office – and following legal advice – they had to remove the billboards.
Pastor Robert Jeffress said it should greatly concern people when the press or the government actively seek to silence any religious message with which they disagree.
In the end, another billboard company stepped up to carry the church’s message on 20 billboards, rather than the original two.
