Emergency Bushfire Warning in NSW Hunter

Saturday, January 13th, 2018

An emergency warning has been issued for a bushfire in the New South Wales Hunter region.

The Rural Fire Service says the blaze is burning near Masonite Road, Tomago – approximately 10 kilometres north of Newcastle.

The fire is moving east towards Newcastle Airport, with residents in Barry Close, Cabbage Tree Road, and Masonite Rd advised to shelter in place as it is too late to leave.

Air crews have been sent to assist ground crews to control the 28-hectare bushfire.

Authorities are warning that embers may be blown ahead of the fire, creating spot fires that could threaten homes earlier than the predicted main fire front.

Residents are urged to check the RFS website for the latest details, at https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/
