A Christian politician in Finland is under investigation for criticising her own church for its participation in a pride event.
Paivi Rasanen shared a portion of Romans 1 on her Facebook page which called same-sex acts “shameful”, while adding her own comments denouncing the event.
Premier News reports that in the post she challenged the decision of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, questioning how the doctrinal foundation of the Bible be compatible with promoting sin and shame as a subject of pride.
An investigation has now been launched by Finnish police over the comments which have been deemed to be inciting hate against gender minorities.
Previous comments made by MP Rasanen in 2010 when she expressed her support for traditional marriage saw tens of thousands leave the ELCF.
The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland has more than 3.8 million members.
