A massive clean up is underway on Queensland’s Fraser Coast following days of intense rain and flooding.

Hundreds have been evacuated from Maryborough where emergency crews are helping those affected.

Fraser Coast Mayor, George Seymour says, it’s a resilient community.

“There was a really strong response, people moved stock out of the way, they sandbagged,” said Mayor Seymour, “the whole community did the best it can… whether it’s houses, or community assets or businesses, to prepare for the flood, and I think we’ve come through it as best as possible.”

Ergon Energy says crews are making good progress restoring power to the Maryborough CBD and other parts of the Wide Bay-Burnett region.

An additional 22 workers have been brought in to assist.

Some roads in the region remain cut off which is hampering efforts.

Residents impacted by flooding are being reminded they need to get a licensed electrician to conduct a check of their property.
