A new study by Pew Research reports government restrictions on religion were at an all-time high prior to the pandemic.

Christian Headlines reports Pew’s survey of 198 nations and territories found 57 countries had ‘high’ or ‘very high’ restrictions on religious practices.

The majority of those countries were from the Asia-Pacific region or the Middle East-North Africa region.

Pew reported 43 countries were found to have ‘high’ or ‘very high’ social hostilities regarding religion.

That was down significantly on previous years and the lowest since 2009.

Religion-related terrorism incidents also declined to 49 countries..

Those incidents are defined as ‘deaths, physical abuse, displacement, detentions, destruction of property, and recruitment’.
