In a town on the Amazon River accessible only by boat, tribal villagers are experiencing the transforming power of the Gospel.

Initially, missionaries were told by the Ticuna tribal leaders to leave, as the Gospel did not fit with their lifestyle.

A mission spokesman in Brazil says nearly all the inhabitants – including children – were addicted to alcohol.

Their intoxication came with chronic depression, with suicide common among the young and old.

He told Christian Aid Mission, the community was taken over by the fear of jungle spirits and the power of darkness.

Missionaries kept trying to develop relationships, and eventually villagers realised they had a problem that needed a solution.

Today there is a growing Christian congregation, with peace taking over the village and many opening their hearts to receive Christ.
