High-level talks between Australian government ministers and their American counterparts have taken place in the United States.
Foreign Minister Marise Payne and Defence Minister Linda Reynolds are in Washington, DC for the AusMIN (Australia-US Ministerial) talks.
They discussed joint efforts to counter China’s posturing in the Indo-Pacific region.
With relations between the US and China deteriorating, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo insists America isn’t forcing Australia to take sides.
“This isn’t about picking America versus China; this is about choosing freedom and democracy against tyranny and authoritarian regime,” Mr Pompeo says.
Health and security have also been on the agenda of the face to face meetings.
