An unusually hard cushion from a second-hand couch has led to a discovery of a large sum of money.
Howard Kirby bought the $70 couch from Habitat for Humanity and inside the cushion was more than 43 thousand dollars.
After seeking legal advice, he was told that he could claim the money, but instead decided to track down the rightful owner.
It turned out that a late family member had stashed the money into the cushion for safekeeping.
Mr Kirby told Christian Headlines he could have used the money for much needed house repairs, but a voice inside told him
“that’s really not yours”.
He returned the entire amount to the family, being commended and rewarded for the good deed.
Strangers in the community donated labour and materials for his new floor and roof, while more than $15,000 was raised through GoFundMe.
