There are concerns Joe Daniher might not make it out onto the field for Essendon this year.
Coach John Worsfold says he’s still a fair way off playing an AFL match due to a long-term groin injury.
The season is due to re-start on June 11, with just one round having been played before the coronavirus prompted the suspension of the competition.
“When I look at what Joe’s doing at the moment, it’s not enough to say that he’ll be ready for round two, so we’ll just keep progressing him,” Worsfold says.
“We’re not too concerned about saying, ‘get him back as quickly as possible’; we’re just following a protocol.”
Daniher has managed only 11 senior games since winning the Bombers best-and-fairest award in 2017.
Captain Dyson Heppell is also in doubt to play in three weeks, following off-season foot surgery.
