Australia’s Anglican Deaconess Ministries has launched a one-time grant to support women impacted by domestic violence.

The launch of the “Restoring Sanctuary” grant of up to $80,000 coincided with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women last week.

Sight Magazine reports that on average, a woman is killed by a current or former partner once a week in Australia. Domestic violence also is a leading cause of homelessness.

ADM spokesperson Amelia Schwarze says the grant provides an opportunity for Christian women and congregations to create ministries that address the needs and trauma of abuse victims.

Applicants are invited to present a concept that outlines a new response to domestic violence, and that shows how at least one Christian woman is leading the initiative.

More information is available at the Anglican Deaconess Ministries website.
