It appears to have been an accident by the men’s top seed, who quickly rushed to see if the woman was alright.
He was trailing 20th seed Pablo Carreno Busta 5-6 in the first set of their fourth round match at the time of the incident.
Djokovic was heavily favoured to win the New York event, which is now guaranteed to be won by a first-time grand slam champion.
