A Cronulla Sharks player has been stood down indefinitely after failing a drugs test, just days out from the resumption of the NRL season.
Bronson Xerri is one of the brightest young stars in rugby league and is tipped to rise to State of Origin level one day.
He was due to line up for the Sharks when they resume their season this Saturday; however, he has now been stood down.
An A sample has tested positive to a banned substance related to testosterone.
His B sample will now be tested.
It’s also understood the 19-year-old’s phone has been confiscated as part of the ongoing investigation.
Xerri will remain on the sidelines indefinitely.
The Sharks were at the centre of the 2011 peptide scandal but there’s no suggestion of a link.
