An American pastor has produced a documentary highlighting the significant number of gun-related deaths in Chicago.
The documentary opened in cinemas in mid May and is in line for an Academy Award for best documentary.
The Christian Post reports the documentary has been noticed by celebrities including Denzel Washington and his wife, Paulette, who’ve rented out movie theatres to screen the production.
Titled, Chicago: America’s Hidden War, the production team was led by Christian pastor Dimas Salaberrios.
Pastor Dimas is a former drug lord turned missionary from New York, who felt called to do something about the gun war in Chicago.
Upon his arrival to the city, Pastor Dimas went on a hunger strike until there were at least five days of peace in the prominent Illinois city, but had to stop as the day never came, and instead focussed on activism.
According to the film’s website, 90 per cent of deaths in Chicago last year resulted from gun violence.
