Polish nationalists are being condemned over an anti-semitic rally on Poland’s Independence Day.

They chanted anti-Jewish slogans in the city of Kalisz.

They also burned a copy of a medieval document that offered Jews protection and rights in Poland.

Poland’s Interior Minister said it was a shameful and scandalous assembly and vowed to take legal action against the organisers.

CBN News reports Israel has labelled it a shocking display of hate.

Poland’s influential Catholic Church agreed.

Its senior bishop says the actions had nothing to do with patriotism and were in direct contradiction to the Gospel and the teaching of the Church.

Poland’s 3.3 million strong Jewish community was the largest in Europe just prior to World War Two.

Today, its numbers have dwindled to around 30,000.
