Australia’s T20 tour of New Zealand is off to a poor start, going down by its biggest ever margin to the Black Caps in the short format.

A brilliant unbeaten 99 from Devon Conway led New Zealand to 184 runs in game one Christchurch.

The Aussies fell short by 53.

Australia’s Mitch Marsh says Conway’s innings took the game away from the tourists.

“He’s obviously someone that we’re going to have to make sure we do a lot of homework [on] over the next few days and make sure we have our plans for him,” he says.

“It was a fantastic innings and [on] days like that in international cricket, you’ve got to take your hat off and say, ‘Well done’.”

The sides will meet again on Thursday in Dunedin for game two of the five-match series.
