The Salvation Army is pioneering pop-up accommodation for homeless people in the UK.

The ‘Nap-pads’ are fitted with non-invasive ‘vital life’ sensors to confirm that the users are still breathing.

It’s based on the technology used to prevent sudden infant death syndrome.

Each pad is self-contained with toilet and wash facilities, a security door, window, power point, heater and LED light.

Malcolm Page from the Salvation Army UK’s homelessness services says that tackling homelessness is more than just offering shelter from a harsh winter.

He told Premier Christian News it’s about helping people to move on from the very reasons they were forced onto the streets in the first place.

The program is being supported by the City of York Council.

It’s provided land for a pilot scheme and support for those who’ll be using the pads.
