‘Prayer Matters’ Say Athletes

Sunday, February 18th, 2018

Students in the US have responded to an atheist group’s complaint that halted prayer before sporting events – by turning up with T-shirts saying ‘Prayer Matters’.

The Ohio district ended a long tradition of praying before athletic events after the Wisconsin-based Freedom from Religion Foundation complained that the practice was unconstitutional.

According to broadcaster WKBN – the local pastor had traditionally said a prayer before football and basketball games for more than three decades – and reports indicated the community wanted that to continue.

A 14-year old student said the faith foundation in the community ran deep.

More than 100 people at last Friday night’s High School varsity basketball game in Beloit, Ohio wore “Prayer Matters” shirts – and after the national anthem held a moment of silence for reflection and prayer.
