A Government Senator plans to introduce a private members bill to change Australia’s laws so that sporting activities can legally exclude transgender people.

Claire Chandler says that under the Sex Discrimination Act, sporting codes and clubs can face legal action for offering single-sex women’s sport.

She says her bill aims to put a stop to that, and restore the rights of women and girls in sport.

Traditional gender activist group ‘Binary’ supports the move.

Founder Kirralie Smith says the federal government has failed to protect women and girls via legislation.

She notes the Sex Discrimination Act was amended in 20-13 to remove the definitions of male and female, and without those definitions, it cannot protect women and girls.

Ms Smith urged Christians to lobby MPs to support the bill once it’s introduced.
