Social Action Key to Church Growth: Report

Friday, November 20th, 2020

A recent report reveals social action can act as a pathway to growing church congregations numerically and spiritually.

The “Growing Good” report from the Church Urban Fund and think tank Theos is three years in the making and focuses on the Church of England, across 60 parishes, as well as the latest statistical data.

While there is no “single, infallible way to grow a church”, the report suggests that social action is “one of the key ways”.

The Archbishop of York Stephen Cottrell, told Christian Today, social action creates meaningful relationships spanning divisions of race, faith, social class, and political ideology.

These wider networks of relationships can result in people initiating a faith journey and joining the church.

Churches that have grown are visible or recognised as being active in giving to their community.
