Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy has sent a heartfelt message to Victorians after his team’s 26-16 win over Newcastle.

The Storm scored four tries to three on the Sunshine Coast to make it six straight wins

Bellamy says he hopes the run of good form is giving those back home something to smile about.

“Some of us have still obviously got family in Melbourne, we’ve got friends, our admin staff – they’re all down there as well,” Bellamy says.

“On behalf of everyone at the club we’d like to thank those first responders for the job they’re doing and hopefully things will start improving soon.”

The win was soured by a shoulder injury to Cameron Smith, who faces two to three weeks on the sidelines.

Off the field, police are investigating whether fans at the match ignored social distancing rules.

Scores of spectators could be seen on a hill during the game.

Police are liaising with stadium officials and Queensland Health to investigate whether rules around social distancing and crowds limits have been broken.

In the other Round 12 match, Parramatta Eels managed to just come away with the win against Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, finishing the match 18-16.
