Surprise Winner of NRL Award

Thursday, September 14th, 2017

Gold Coast favourite Anthony Don was a surprise victor of the Paul Broughton Medal at the NRL club’s awards dinner on Wednesday night.

He beat State of Origin rookies Nathan Peats and Jarrod Wallace to the prize.

Don became the first winger to win the Titans’ top gong in the club’s 11-year history, capping a personally satisfying season in an otherwise bleak Gold Coast campaign.

Don, who has a 2018 contract with the Titans, polled 49 votes in the race, with players and coaching staff nominating their best in a 3-2-1 format after each game.

Peats (47) and Wallace (45) were close behind, while Ashley Taylor was surprisingly not in the top five despite being the only Titans player to play every game this season and finishing with an NRL-best 29 try assists.
