Cricket Australia has confirmed the third Test match will go ahead as planned at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
The decision to keep the New Year’s Test at its traditional venue was made after several days of meetings to weigh up the impacts of the recent COVID-19 cases on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.
Melbourne had been considered the frontrunner to host the third match should it be moved, but it was announced late on Tuesday night that Sydney would retain the event.
Cricket Australia’s interim CEO Nick Hockley says the governing body will put in place appropriate biosecurity measures to ensure that both the Sydney and Brisbane Tests can go ahead.
Exemptions have been secured for broadcast staff across the New South Wales and Queensland border to finish the series.
The third Test will begin on January 7 at the SCG, while the final game of the four-match series is scheduled to be played at the Gabba from January 15 to 19.
