The Federal Government is preparing to announce plans to reform the gas market, to help slash household bills.
Over recent months the Prime Minister has championed gas as a way of providing affordable energy to help reboot the economy.
Scott Morrison will on Tuesday use a factory in the New South Wales Hunter as the backdrop to unveil his new gas plan.
The government will help identify gas pipelines and other infrastructure, and an Australian Gas Hub will also be established to boost competition, and make sure people are paying a fair price.
Companies will be encouraged to use their exploration licences or lose them.
It’s hoped the reforms will create jobs, and prop up the renewables sector.
Energy Minister Angus Taylor says all jurisdictions will have a role to play.
“Gas will be central to our ongoing recovery, we want gas to work for all Australians, that means we need more gas coming out from under the ground. And state governments and territory governments working with the Federal Government is crucial to achieving that”, said Mr Taylor.
Australia’s oil and gas industry will deliver a five year blueprint to Scott Morrison this week.
