The Queen Delivers Commonwealth Day Speech

Queen Elizabeth

The Queen has reflected on the testing times of the pandemic, and the importance of friendship and unity, during a short pre-recorded speech to mark Commonwealth Day.

“Whilst experiences of the last year have been different across the Commonwealth, stirring examples of courage, commitment and selfless dedication to duty, have been demonstrated in every Commonwealth nation and territory,” said Her Majesty.

Queen Elizabeth acknowledged the tireless efforts of frontline workers and described the need to socially distance and work from home as an “unusual experience” for many.

“The testing times experienced by so many, have led to a deeper appreciation of the mutual support, and spiritual sustenance we enjoy by being connected to others,” said Her Majesty.

Commonwealth Day is celebrated annually on the second Monday of March, and is also marked by an Anglican service in Westminster Abbey.
